HEPA Air Cleaner Cost of Operation

Before you buy anything that uses electricity, cost of operation should weigh heavily into your purchasing decision. (unless your Bill Gates of course) How much electricity does the appliance use? How much are the replacement filters? Is it cheaply made or is it made to last? Take a look at the data below. The cheaper plastic HEPA machines actually cost more to purchase and operate over 5 years than the more expensive steel construction air cleaners that come with with a 5 year warranty.  Besides costing more to operate, the smaller HEPA machines clean the air in a much smaller area and cannot remove VOC's and chemicals, you need many pounds of carbon and a larger machine to do that.
