Best Vacuum: Hyla Water Filtration System

Hyla Water Filtration Air

Cleaning and Vacuuming System.

The Hyla patented separator spins at 27,000 RPM's and unlike the Rainbow vacuums does not have to be cleaned.

The Hyla can also be used to wet clean besides it main functions as an air purifier and vacuum cleaner.

We were so impressed with the German engineered Hyla Vacuum and air filtration system that one of the owners became a dealer. This is by far the best vacuum cleaner we've tried and tested, and we've tested all of the top brands including Kirby, Rainbow, Dyson, Hoover, Eureka, and Bissell (just to name a few) in our local air purifier business. Here is what Mike our IAQ expert has this to say about vacuums and the Hyla in particular:

"A good water filtration vacuum like the Hyla has several IAQ advantages over bag vacuum systems. Regular bag vacuums, even ones utilizing HEPA bags, still put billions of sub micron particles back into the air every time you vacuum. That is because 80% or more of air pollutants are smaller that .3 microns in size, the particle size HEPA filters are 99.97 efficient in collecting. The American Lung Association offers this warning:

  • "Vacuum cleaners with poor filtration and design characteristics release and stir up dust and allergens.

Select a unit with high-efficiency filters such as micro filter or HEPA media, good suction, and sealed construction. Ask for test data from manufacturers to determine the quantity and size of dust particles captured (e.g., 96 % at 1.0 micron or 99.97% at 0.3 micron). Alternately, consider a central vacuum that exhausts particulate outside the home.

Anyone with asthma or allergies may want to avoid vacuuming.(Click here to view entire article, last paragraph quoted)

Don't vacuum? That's a bit strange don't you think given the fact that if you don't vacuum, your indoor air quality will go from bad to worse. They recommend central vacuums but those systems have very weak suction and cost several thousands of dollars to install. What I like most about our Hyla is that it wears so many hats. It's a powerful vacuum which will not allow small particulates back into the air and which does not require replacement bags, it's a 110 CFM air purifier that collects particles much smaller than even the best HEPA machine; it's a humidifier (we need those here in Las Vegas); it's an aromatherapy diffuser (Note:only use essential oils for aromatherapy!  My favorite is Eucalyptus which is good for lung health); and it's a wet vac system that cleans tile, hardwood floors, cleans us spills, and also cleans the carpet and upholstery."

Lets analyze some of these different functions.

Hyla as an Air Cleaner and Humidifier

While this system is much louder than a HEPA machine, we use it as an air cleaner / humidifier in unoccupied rooms for 30 minutes at a time to purify, humidify, and add essential oil aromas to the air. The company wants you to buy their aroma oils but we recommend just one drop of pure essential oils for aromatherapy purposes. Aromatherapy has medicinal qualities if you use the right oil. (Learn more about aromatherapy)   It's amazing how many particles the Hyla collects in 30 minutes even though we use high quality HEPA machines and MERV 11 furnace filters in our home. We start with clean water and end up with gray water every time. As an air cleaner it is rated at 110 CFM which is enough to clean all of the air in a 12x12 room in around 30 minutes. Unlike bag vacuums that leave the air smelling like dust particles, the Hyla leaves the air smelling great and humidified; a big deal if you live in a dry climate like we do.

Other Uses

The Hyla system can also comes with an innovative wet cleaning wand that does a great job of cleaning hardwood floors, tile, or cleaning the carpets or upholstery.  Before Hyla, we used a Rainbow system.  The Hyla was actually developed we're told by an ex-Rainbow engineer who decided he could improve on their design, and he did. The Rainbow vacuum systems has a separator that is very hard to clean; Hyla's separator spins so fast it doesn't need cleaning. The Rainbow water collection basin is hard to clean due to the angled design. They Hyla is super easy to clean due to design improvements.  The Rainbow isn't as powerful and versatile as the Hyla either. There are other cheaper water filtration vacuums on the market but they are poorly designed, poor performing and are not built to last from what we've seen and read. You're almost better off going with a HEPA vacuum!  If you can afford the best, the Hyla is worth checking out.

If you live in Las Vegas or plan on visiting Las Vegas and would like an in home (or in Hotel room) demonstration please call our local number 702-380-4280 to schedule an appointment.

Note: If you feel you have a better vacuum, feel free to contact us and allow us to test your product then test the air with our Fluke 983 particle counter to see if it can stack up to the air cleaning ability of the Hyla.
