Air Care electrostatic furnace filters and all furnace filters for that matter are made to remove dust particles from the air, but not odors, VOC's, and chemicals. To accomplish those feats, you going to need to invest in a carbon filter pad. Adding a carbon filter pad to your Air Care Electra Gold Electrostatic Furnace Filter is a great investment that will pay huge dividends in your indoor air quality. If you run your HVAC system 24/7, (only cost around $5 a month in electricity to do so) and utilize our quality Air Care Electra Gold furnace filters, a carbon pad, and maybe even a UVC Induct air purifier, you can transform your HVAC system into a "whole home" air purifier for only a few dollars a month.
Why do I need carbon? VOC's, second hand smoke, and chemicals pose a serious indoor air quality threat. Carbon is the only safe way of removing these harmful substances. Carbon is like a sponge. Once it's full, it is no longer of any use. But wait, don't despair. We have a solution! The Ionic Zone $79 400 mg hr ozone generator. When you feed ozone into carbon, the ozone breaks down the harmful substances absorbed by the carbon thus making the carbon "like new" again and able to continue doing it's thing. You can rejuvenate your carbon filter in one of two ways with this ozone generator. You can feed ozone into your furnace filter or you can remove your carbon filter every month and place it in a thick garbage bag, feed the ozone tube into the bag, close the opening, and allow the garbage bag to fill with very high levels of ozone for 30-60 minutes. The ozone will oxidize the contaminants collected by the carbon filter. (This trick also works with any air purifier's carbon filter, stinky shoes, etc). Why not just pump ozone into the air to remove odors and chemicals and be done with it? Ozone is an oxidizer, like chlorine. It works, but you don't want it in your lungs the same way you don't want chlorine vapors in your lungs. Ozone is very beneficial however when used (such in this case) to oxidize contaminants in a controlled environment. Of course we'll make more money if you simply throw your filter away ever 2-3 months and buy another one, but our mission statement is to provide our customers with the most cost effective solutions, and this certainly qualifies.
