A. Every air purifier technologies has advantages and disadvantages, so it depends on your situation. If you have allergies or asthma, you will want to will want to take a number of steps to make sure your indoor air quality is as good as it can possibly be. Your first line of defense is always MERV 11 furnace filters. We recommend you run your HVAC fan 24/7 and change your MERV 11 filters monthly. (We sell them wholesale from $4.32 each). Next, you should test your air to see exactly what poses the biggest danger. If it's molds and bacteria, you will want to invest in a UV system as well as PCO technology. If the problem is allergens, then a high grade HEPA machine will work best for you. If removing odors, VOC's, and chemicals is most important to you, go with a HEPA machine with 15 or more pounds of carbon and rejuvenate the carbon with the $79 Ionic Zone 400 mg/hr ozonator. Stay away from ozone generators sold as air purifiers however unless you smoke cigarettes or own a smoky bar. Ozone is a great oxidizer, but when it doesn't have anything to oxidize it will be breathed in and irritate the lungs. The best overall deal for a HEPA machine is the Austin Air and Allerair lines. The highest tech machines belong to Airpura, Bio-Net, and NQ Clarifier. If you want a great bargain, look at the Ionic Zone line of air purifiers. back to top

A. No. Smog comes form cars and factories. It's made of hydrocarbons, VOC's, and nitrous oxides. Ozone is created when smog splits oxygen atoms (O2) especially on hot days to form the three oxygen atom molecule we know as ozone. Ozone in turn will then oxidize the man made contaminants and break them down into harmless substances. Without ozone, we'd all die from the garbage coming out of factories and cars (especially big rigs and buses that by law do not need emissions controls), yet some ms-informed say we should eliminate ozone from the air. (what a joke, eh?) Ozone is easier to measure than the man made contaminants so the powers that be measure ozone levels to determine pollution levels. However, when the air is polluted, the man made pollutants are much more harmful to breath than the natural oxidizer ozone. back to top
