There is a lot of misinformation about ozone generators on the Internet, hence, this expose to help you make an informed decision.
LIE # 1: Ozone Shock Treatment square foot recommendations. This is something Mold Remediation contractors and professionals know but ozone generator sales people don't seem to know, you can't "shock" an area with low levels of ozone! Some vendors will tell you that their 3500 mg/h ozone generator can shock a 2000 sq. ft area in 24 hours. What they don't tell you is that ozone dissipates after 40 minutes and that the ppm (parts per million) of ozone in a 2000 sq. ft area will never even get close to shock levels within 40 minutes or 24 hours. Call your local mold remediation professional who is schooled and trained in ozone shock treatments and they'll tell you the same. That's why mold remediation contractors will come in with 8-10 machines to treat an entire home in a 6 hour period. Smoke and odor remediation is another subject. Mold is a living organism that needs to be exposed to toxic levels of ozone before it dies. Smoke damage is caused by chemicals that over a long period of time can be removed by lower levels of ozone. However, to get rid of stubborn odors (skunk, dying animal, etc), you will need to get shock treatment levels of ozone. (more than 1000 milligrams per 100 sq. ft over a 6 hour period). That leads us to Lie 2.
LIE #2: Actual Ozone production. We tested one ozone generator that claimed to produce 16,000 mgh and found it only produced around 3000 milligrams. How can a vendor get away with this? There is no regulatory agency or watchdog to monitor the industry and vendors can say whatever they want as far as ozone production goes. Here's a heads up, if the unit claims to make over 9,000 mgh of ozone per hour and is not fed with oxygen, then you'll never get more than 9000 mgh of ozone out of that unit. Why? Ozone is produced by splitting the oxygen (02) in ambient air in one oxygen atom (O) which binds to O2 to make O3. The problem lies with the fact there's only so much oxygen in the air (21% of air is oxygen) that can be split to make ozone. Humidity will also limit the amount of ozone that can be produced. Ionic Zone was going to sell a 14,400 mgh ozone generator but our tests revealed it only produced around 2500 mgh more than our 7200 mgh unit. We were told by the testing company that UNLESS we fed the unit oxygen, we weren't going to get much more ozone than that unless we changed the design to put the 4 ozone plates much further apart. (they were housed in one ozone chamber and fed with one fan). Putting two 7200 machines several feet apart however could yield 14,000 plus milligrams per hour. Some designs that stack ozone generators on top of each other could also yield higher very high levels of ozone. But one machine, fed ambient air, around 9000 mgh seems to be the limit.
LIE #3. Gold plated ozone element do not produce any zero nitrous oxides. Small amount of Nitrous Oxides are a byproduct of creating ozone and NOX is not created by the elements per se, it's created by the humidity (water content) in the air. The Taiwanese company who holds the patent on those types of ozone elements never claims in their patent application that the elements do not produce NOX. That is simply a marketing ploy by the US reseller of their products who imports that line of ozone generators. Those false claims have nothing to do with factual science or the patent itself. (They do have nice looking shiny machines however) If you doubt me, ask the vendor of these gold plated element ozone generators for the patent number and look up the patent online yourself. You can also ask to see specific independent test results that show their gold plated ozone elements will not produce small amounts of NOX just like other ozone elements in the presence of humidity.
LIE #4: All ozone generators are basically the same, they all make ozone. Not true. While it is true that all ozone generators make ozone, it's not true that they're all the same. Some ozone generators on the market feature non-removable ozone tubes that pose a fire hazard. These types of ozone tubes are made of mica paper wrapped in a coil. The vendors of these machines ONLY warranty the generators but not the ozone tubes which can burn out in no time. If you can't buy a replacement ozone element for your ozone generator, don't buy it. If you do, you'll regret it. It's also worth mentioning that Ionic Zone ozone generators are the only ones on the market that have a patented "ozone chamber" to house the ozone elements and prevent the inside of the unit from filling with ultra high levels of zone. This will prevent the ozone from causing damage over a long period of time.
LIE #5. You get what you pay for. While it is true that some cheap ozone generators sold in the US are made and sold from China and that shipping a unit back to China for repair is quite costly (sometimes more than $150 both ways), it's not true that the more expensive ozone generators produce more ozone or are better than say a $349 Ionic Zone ozone generator. The truth is that an ozone generator doesn't have an engine or tires and shouldn't cost as much as a car! ($1000-$2000) Ozone Generators are electronic pieces of equipment, not high end stereo's. The reason why some vendors charge so much is because of the lack of competition quite frankly. You could pay more and get less than what our ozone generators have to offer (5 yr warranty, patented ozone chamber, timers, dealing with US company, etc).

What is the best way to use one of our ozone generators? Even if you don't smoke, it's beneficial to run an ozone generator in your residence or office while your not present. The ozone will oxidize VOC's, remove odors, kill viruses, bacteria, and molds, and if it doesn't find anything to oxidize, it will revert back to oxygen thus increasing the oxygen level. (the more oxygen, the better!) I hope you don't smoke, but if you do smoke, use an ozone generator while you smoke and for some time after in order to oxidize the thousands of chemicals produced by tobacco smoke. They pump ozone into casino's which has the dual positive effect of getting rid of second hand smoke and creating high oxygen levels which keep players feeling alert.
What about our water ozonators? Are ozone water safe? Ozone water
is used to clean the water in most municipal water districts in lieu of chlorine, and quite successfully.
Ozone is also used successfully to purify the blood and
even kill cancers mostly in Germany where they've administered over 6 million ozone treatments without one death and with only a handful (under 100) adverse reactions. Compare that to 6 million does of FDA approved drugs. How many deaths and adverse reactions do you think take place with most approved drugs? I've venture to say quite a bit, in the millions. Why then is ozone not used to treat illness in our country? Can it be the lack of research? Defiantly not. Why then does the AMA and FDA not recognize this research? Money. The AMA is almost 100% funded by big drug companies that make billions from patented drugs. You can't patent ozone. Moreover, if ozone was used to treat disease with little or no side effects, what would that do to the big drug companies? Oh no, the shareholders say, we can' t have that! Pay off whomever we have to pay off and let's vilify ozone at every turn and throw people in jail who practice ozone therapy seems to be their mantra.
